The Backpack Series

For my Fundamentals of Design class, I took on the challenge of reimagining the concept of a "backpack." Does it have to go on your back, or is it simply something that holds something else? Through both individual and partnered assignments, I designed innovative backpacks using only cardboard and 1–2 other materials, pushing the boundaries of function and form. This project taught me the value of resourcefulness, iteration, and thinking outside the (cardboard) box

Hands Free Serving: The Vest Bag

This idea for the vest bag sparked when I realized how challenging it must be for servers to juggle everything in their hands. To make their lives easier, I designed a wearable vest with compartments for clean and dirty utensils and a pocket for a notebook and pen. The design process involved delaminating the cardboard, reinforcing it with duct tape, making precise cuts, and constructing the piece into a functional vest—all while combining practicality with creativity.

“Dune” Bag

Created in collaboration with Ethan Pierce, this bag draws inspiration from the survivalist lifestyle in the movie Dune. The slits in the cardboard are designed to let sand pass through while keeping belongings secure, making it practical for desert-like conditions. Designed to be worn in multiple ways—as a satchel, over the back, or across the front—it reflects the resourcefulness and versatility required to thrive in any environment.
